Vehicle Description
Brief history of the Acapulco Thing
In the early 1970s, Volkswagen began producing the Type 181 for civilian markets around the world, including the United States. The Volkswagen Thing Acapulco was designed as a special edition of the Type 181 for the American market and was available for purchase by the general public through Volkswagen dealers. The Acapulco Thing was marketed as a fun, beach-ready vehicle that was perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and families who wanted a versatile and practical car that could handle a wide range of activities. The Acapulco Thing was painted in a distinctive blue-and-white color scheme that evoked the tropical atmosphere of Acapulco. It also featured a removeable top and removable doors, which made it perfect for enjoying sunny days at the beach. Inside, the Acapulco Thing had striped blue-and-white seat covers and a unique dashboard that featured a built-in radio and speakers. Today, the Volkswagen Thing Acapulco is a sought-after collector's item, and surviving examples are highly valued by VW enthusiasts.
